So it's been a very long time since I posted anything. I've been quite busy with college life and making sure that my work can be placed into my portfolio. I'm hoping that soon I will have a website of my own up to show all my work that I call portfolio worthy since I feel that only the best should be shown. Currently I'm doing my last 6 months in Web & Graphic design, from there...I don't know what the world has in store for me. All that I know is that what ever comes my way, I'll be ready for it. Since I've learned to expect the unexpected and never take life for granted.

Well I've been trying to come up with a new model for awhile now. I've finally got something to show. The style will be somewhat cartoon in the final render. But I like my concept and where it's going right now. Of course this my all change within a week...we'll have to see

Card Captor Sakura - Vector

I did this picture a couple of months ago and I just never got around to putting it up on my blog. I'm going to try and constantly update my blog as often as possible without things getting boring. So here is Card Captor Sakura (anime character) that I drew over in Illustrator CS3. I used the pen tool to outline it and selected similar colors to the ones in the original.

my reason for placing the image like this is so that you can see the difference in the two. The the original on the top and then my vector piece at the bottom.

This is just an update for those of you who seem to be still viewing my blog. I've managed to graduate from 3D Gaming animation. I'm still working on updating my modeling skills and make some new environments, that I will hopefully place up on my blog. I've starting taking a new program that will allow me to make my own website that I can place more of my own work on. So I will be doing graphics and web design.

So...I've begun a new model that I plan on putting into my future demo reel. I found a picture of this diorama of a taoist paradise and it was completely made from cork. So I decided that I would model it out in 3D...of course I made some manipulations to it so that it wasn't a direct copy.

To those of you who are either keeping tabs on my blog or just happen to stumble across it. The Ho-Masubi project has been put on hold. It was taking too long and I have to have to complete models done in three months and well that wasn't going to happen at the rate I was going.

So instead after talking to two of my instructors, we figured that since I want to be an environment artist, that I should be looking towards interiors and exteriors of place that exist or via my own thing...(more so from a picture). Ho-Masubi Part 1

This is my latest model that will be appearing on my demo reel when I finish my schooling. This is Ho-Masubi - he's a nekomata(fork tailed cat)....it's apart of Japanese folklore and when I had done my research on it, I thought that I should model out one the way I thought that it would look. Well I did a lot of sketching trying to develop the right style and so this is what I came up with. I hope you all like what you see.

It's been a little while since I've posted my progress on this current environment, and well that would be due to that it's crunch time at my school and final projects are due really really soon. But as for the model....I've done all the texturing, modeled rocks, blades of grass and I've been working on the path that I would have the camera follow. I used some volume effects in XSI to create the clouds. I'm really happy with the look of this. I hope you all like what you see.

Environment Model

I started this environment about a week ago. I've based this up on a Japanese garden and placed in three cliff tops with a giant magical tree. The texturing will hopefully be done this week since it has to be done by December 6th. I'm going to have a cartoon feel to it and I've been looking at references of the internet for it. Any comments or critiques would be great.

Diasuke updated - Lighting

I've been working on the lighting again since my instructor didn't feel that I was getting it and I think that maybe now I've got something to better display my character. The two different images is that they have different lighting and intesity in the shadows.

I've made some decent changes to Diasuke. The texture has been updated and I was able figure out some normal mapping problems that I was having before. I've still to get my lighting down and figure out what sort of base to place him on at this point. Hopefully get that done and have a render ready soon.

Diasuke has come quite a long way. I've currently placed on normal maps and ambient occlusion maps to bring out some of the features. I'm still trying to vary the texture a bit to make things really "pop". So maybe in the next update I'll have something cool in the texture.

So far I've been fiddling with the texture and lighting trying to get the proper feel for the character. I've got more work to do with the texture still and then I will begin to render and get the rotation going.

Just an update as to my progress on Diasuke. He's textured and I've got some tweaking to do on that. The lighting is just basic until I get a better idea of what I'm wanting to accomplish. my next step is rigging.

I've managed to reduce the poly count in XSI (trying to create my own low-poly without using the polygon reduction option). I pinched in the leaves a bit in ZBrush trying to give it a more organic feel than it already has.

After posting on www.xsibase.com, I was told that Diasuke was too symmetrical. I happen to agree with that after looking at him. So I took certain aspects from his arms off and some things from the vines going around his arms. I also added and second vine to each arm wrapping around, but attaching at different point on the front of the body. As well I placed in some small little straggling vines in random spots on the back and front of him. Please leave any comments or critiques...it would be greatly appreciated.

Yes..it's cute and "chibi", but that's what my class decided (of course it's myself and one other guy in the class). Here is another update on Diasuke. I removed some edge loops and added the thorns on the arms...I think that I might add some more thorns or something, not sure yet. But please leave and comments or critiques..it would be nice to see what people think about it.

Here is an update of Diasuke. I've added leaves on the main vines, and the ones on the pod device as well. I've managed to remove some edge loops, but only to add them in other places. The model itself should be complete with in a week today.

This is my final drill. The time limit on thos drill is 12 hours. I've done the first 3 hours today and I have to have it done by Tuesday at midnight. I think that will be plenty of time for since I seem to have a better grasp on re-creating HR Giger's Numbian Queen model than I did last time.

Well I was given a chance today in class to really prove myself. My instructor was worried that I wasn't really getting it. But I was told to model an ear in one hour. well I managed to have him tell me to move on with only 30min left. I'm quite pleased with the outcome.

Well I've donw to 4.5 hours into thew drill and found that there isn't really anything that I can do to this model. I've managed to remove some edge loops, and still keeping it low poly (I'm really happy about that). The poly count is 1706 and it's still has the required shape to it.

Here is what I have to show in my 5th hour of working on this drill. I would say that he still looks slightly asian, but that is okay for me. I worked a bit with the nose shape and the jaw region (incl. the lips and chin). Feedback would be great, I'm hoping to pass this drill.

I come up to hour 5 of this 6 hour drill and things are starting to get difficult in getting the defenition in the nose where it meets the cheek bone. But as for the changes that I made...
I brought the cheeks in a bit and re-positioned the eye sockets so that it didn't look like something was off.

I made some changes to my concept of what I was going to make this alien look like. I gave it more of a stubby tail for balance since I was unsure of if it really needed a tail or not and asked some friends and they thought that the tail would be a good idea.

So you can see from the single drawing that I did the outline in Illustrator CS2, and the changes I made in the XSI screen shots I took

Here is my ZBrush character so far. It's an alien cross with a reptile and turtle, I thought that I would be cool to make such a cross breed. I've also begun to work on a scene for me creature to be posed in after I've done the zbrush work. Free Comic book Day

Today (May 5th, 2007) was free comic book day. Maria and I went to see what we could find. Of course Maria was more like a kid in a candy store than anything and was totally nerding out...of course I was too...to some degree. So I did manage to come out of there with some free comics.

This is my latest assignment for 3DAM 202. The concept behind this is that we needed to create a creature or possible race that would fit into the Blizzard Universe. So I took several different ideas that I got from other people and eventually came up with the picture that you see with this post. The idea came from a context the Blizzard was doing and I just have to follow that guidelines...so that means that it has to be low poly (under 5000), hopefully that's not too hard. I've also made myself a schedual that I can keep on track and actually get this assignment done maybe with some time to spare.

SilverStar Day 3 - Finals

This is day three of the competition and we seemed to be up against people who seem to do this for a living. But we participated in the event and we're mostly proud of the work we did. The sculpture of the mushroom and stuff won 1st place and is off to Quebec next year representing BC. Oh and any white spots on the pictures is actually snow since it had started to snow over night.

Snow Sculpting Progress

Hardcore Modelling Challenge

Well....for those of you who read my blog between now and whenever, I have been entered into a contest through CG Society which I had stated in post I did earlier. So for this contest I will be modelling a creature called - Dioskilos. Basically it's a wolf with an extra head. Here are a few pictures of it from the 1981 version of "Clash of the Titans". My deadline is Feb 28th. I also will be posting my work in progress (WIP) on this blog as well as some basic drawings, so critiques would be nice, just so that I know where I can improve.
